Noontime Martini: Have you ever dislike a heroes nickname?

I would love to have a Girls Lunch Date with a Dirty Martini and Talk  Bookish and Non-Bookish with you all. Well since I can not have that, Noontime Martini was created.

Hi everyone. I was going through some old reviews to see how I use to write them. I came across a review from one of my favorite authors and forgot I even read this book. Sadly it was not a hit for me and I am sure this is my reasoning for not remembering. I love when a hero has a nickname. I feel like I am getting an extra treat when this happens. I was not a fan of this heroes nickname but that is not the reason for my miss with this book. I got to thinking if anybody else has ever came across a heroes nickname that was not appealing.

Series: Colorado Mountain #5

An old flame rekindled . . .

Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn't interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara's lost her business, her marriage, and she's barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.

Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man.
I assumed going into Jagged the heroes nickname is Ham from the blurb. I could never pass up a Kristen Ashley novel. She is the queen of delicious alpha male heroes. Graham Reece is a sexy name for a hero. Personally I would of loved Reece as his nickname. Not a piece of meat. His nickname for the heroine is Cookie. I am thinking these nicknames were meant to sound cute and funny. Everybody has different taste and I am sure many have loved these nicknames.

Grab a coffee, tea or cocktail and lets chat.
Have you ever dislike a heroes nickname? Have you read Jagged?

Review: Rock Chick Redemption by Kristen Ashley

Rock Chick Redemption (Rock Chick #3)
by Kristen Ashley

Synopsis
Roxie’s on the run from a bad boyfriend who will not catch the hint that it is o-v-e-r. She’s in no mood for love at first sight, but when her eyes fall on Hank, it’s trouble from the get-go. Roxie tries to hold Hank at arms length but Hank wants to be a closer (as in, a lot closer). Roxie’s trouble catches up with her and Hank wants to help but Roxie knows in her heart that she’s no good for a white hat guy. The problem is no one agrees with her, especially her crazy hippie best friend Annette or her parents; the even crazier small-Indiana-town Herb and Trish. Toss into the mix the gang from Rock Chick and Rock Chick Rescue and Roxie finds herself totally outnumbered.

Climb in for another Rock Chick wild ride through Rock Chick Redemption. As the odds stack up against Roxie, she has no choice but to hold on and just ride it out through the kidnappings, car chases, society parties, a riot at the strip club, Hank getting “Mom Bombed” and one crazy night at the Haunted House.

During all this Hank works at convincing her she really wants to stay and he, along with the Hot Bunch, go all out to make her safe. Hank also needs to work on showing Roxie that her past decisions don’t mean her future can’t include something as downright delicious as… normal.

Review: Rock Chick Rescue by Kristen Ashley

Rock Chick Rescue (Rock Chick #2)
by Kristen Ashley

Synopsis
Jet McAlister has a secret. Eddie Chavez has the hots for Jet (not to mention Eddie’s just plain hot). Jet has too many problems to realize that Eddie’s interested. Eddie loses patience when Jet ends her waitressing shift at a strip club with a knife at her throat. Since Eddie’s a cop, he figures he can help. Since Jet’s used to solving everyone’s problems she doesn’t want Eddie’s help.

Throw in a Dolly Parton look-alike, a gruff but lovable strip club owner, Jet’s ne’er do well father, his ne’er do well friend, Bear, Bear’s long-suffering, chain-smoking wife Lavonne and the crew from Rock Chick and you’ve got Rock Chick Rescue.

Rock Chick Rescue takes you on a wild ride with Jet, Eddie and the gang as they wrestle bad guys in a bagel shop, hit Denver’s backstreet poker tables (with big hair), and help the strippers at Smithie’s take down a would-be murderer.

Through this, Jet’s got to learn that even when life made you give up your dreams, you can still end up with the (hot) guy. Eddie’s got to rescue Jet from a bad man (so he can do better things with her) and teach her that some dreams can come true.

Spoil Free Review

I am torn as I am a huge Kristen Ashley fan but Jagged was a disappointment. Right from the start I could not connect with the characters.  Jagged is full of telling and no showing that leads to no chemistry between the characters and the sex scenes flat.  Had to put Jagged down many times and was very hard to pick back up. Scenes felt like they were thrown in, some scenes were just nonsense rambling and lots of scenes felt pushed.

Jagged is shorter than Kristen Ashley older novels and love that it is like this, but it missed it mark having the novel fleshed out nicely. Where did all the sexy alpha males go that are so well fleshed out through  her novels? I love her unique writing style and absolutely love her alpha male heroes and the twist and turns that come with them. She is also known for her corky sidekicks with woman friends and for me they usually work and think they work for me because I am already in love with the alpha male hero by then and so engrossed in the story. In Jagged I would of rather of  have less of them and more of a fleshed out alpha male hero.

She is known for sometimes having silly nicknames but Cookie and Ham to date are the worse. Graham Reece is a very sexy name for a hero and I would of rather have his nickname be Reece than Ham.

In Jagged and her Chaos series I notice each Chapter starts off with 5 months later, 3 weeks later, 2 days later etc. I am not liking the time line with each chapter.

Kristen Ashley is the Queen of best epilogues and yes some are more my favorite than others but readers do not get this in Jagged. How it continues with Graham and Zara HEA is sweet but felt a little coded and would of loved to have a real epilogue that I have come to love when finishing a Kristen Ashley novel.

I love the idea of the plot but the execution was not happening.  Jagged was very close to becoming a DNF for me but I held on hoping something would wow me and a few times Reece became sexy and would say something smart mouth like her older heroes would do and then that would be it. So for the 2 stars-ok rating Jagged had so much potential to be a good intense read with a sometimes sexy alpha male hero just itching to come out.

I still have many books to read in Colorado Mountain and Burg series and look forward to reading them. Even though Jagged was an Ok read for me I still get excited when Kristen Ashley has a new book release. I look forward to reading Kaleidoscope (Colorado Mountain #6).

Brock had me at the kitchen scene. I really can not give a reason why but for some reason during this kitchen scene with Brock and Tessa at this moment I fell in love with Brock. I actually had to read it a few times. The whole kitchen scene was really intense. Basically he is pissed because she promised him something but then she found out something about him and was not happy about it. He has given her time to get over it but she has not called him in months and he finds out she is a selling her house. He then goes to see her and notices she has changed her style. Love the Dream Man series by Kristen Ashley with yummy intense Alpha Male heroes.

ARC Review: Fire Inside by Kristen Ashley

Fire Inside (Chaos #2)
by Kristen Ashley

Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love—no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club...

For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She’s too polished and too classy for his tastes. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can’t say no. And he doesn’t regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that’s ever happened to him—in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

Fire Inside is the same timeline as Own The Wind (Chaos #1). All the times Hop and Lanie were sneaking around in Own The Wind, Chaos fans will finally get the goods on what was going on between them and a little more. Since it was the same time frame, Hop’s story had no action or edge of your seat moments. For it being the same time frame I am happy that some of the drug lord scenes were not rehash from Own The Wind.

Fire Inside is about Lanie fighting the demons inside of her from being kidnapped and shot because of her dead husband actions in Motorcycle Man (Dream Man #4). Loved how we got to get inside Lanie’s head on what happened to her and the effect it had on her. If have not read Motorcycle Man do not worry Kristen Ashley did a great job with just enough info on what happened to Lanie.

Loved how Lanie and Hop were total opposites and fit so well together. Loved how Kristen Ashley cleared up a scene with Hop and Bebe from Motorcycle Man. She has way of making a scene more than what it really is. Hop is sexy with his alpha male attitude and loved every moment of it. Loved his jealous side especially when it came to Lanie going on a date with someone her friends were trying to hook her up with to get her back in the dating scene. No one knows she is seeing Hop. I wanted more with these scenes and felt it was pushed to get a jealous moment out of Hop.

A few things were a bit repetitive, like his mustache when ever he kissed her. I would of liked some of the repetitive stuff taken away and added more to the storyline with something new. The storyline for Fire Inside and Chaos series is so far missing some intense moments and action like her other novels. But that will not stop me from continuing the series. I will read and buy anything Kristen Ashley writes. Loving the cover for Fire Inside and look forward to the new cover.

He wasn't gentle, he sucked her clit hard, buried his tongue in deep. He pulled her legs over his shoulders and she dug her heels in, using his back as leverage to rock herself against his mouth, her hands in his hair, holding him to her. So hot, so sweet, that need, it was fucking fantastic.

ARC Review: Own The Wind by Kristen Ashley

Own the Wind (Chaos #1)
by Kristen Ashley
Publisher: Hachette Book Group, Grand Central Publishing, Forever

Blurb by Goodreads

Too hot to handle...

Tabitha Allen grew up in the thick of Chaos--the Chaos Motorcycle Club, that is. Her father is Chaos' leader, and the club has always had her back. But one rider was different from the start. When Tabby was running wild, Shy Cage was there. When tragedy tore her life apart, he helped her piece it back together. And now, Tabby's thinking about much more than friendship...

Tabby is everything Shy's ever wanted, but everything he thinks he can't have. She's beautiful, smart, and as his friend's daughter, untouchable. Shy never expected more than friendship, so when Tabby indicates she wants more--much more--he feels like the luckiest man alive. But even lucky men can crash and burn...

I was excited that Kristen Ashley was doing a spin off series of The Dream Man series with The characters from Chaos MC. Loved it but it did not wow me like the Dream Man series. The intensity, emotional pull, and action was not there for me but was still a good read. Own The Wind is a Good start to a new series.

Tabby and Shy have been friends since she was 16. When she turns 19 there is an incident with them that ruins their friendship. Three years later a tragic incident brings her back into Shy’s life. I loved the growth of their friendship to good friends where they do almost everything together. Loved once they became a couple and Tack who is from Motorcycle Man  (Dream Man Series #4), her father and the president of the Chaos club finds out and  is not too happy. Loved seeing Tack and Tyra. Thank you to Kristen Ashley for keeping Tack’s kick butt ways true to his character from Motorcycle Man especially when it came to his daughter dating Shy who is ladies man and not one for settling down.

Shy was bit on the light side in Kristen Ashley’s in-you-face-alpha-male heroes. He is still a sexy alpha male hero that had a few moments where he was in-your-face-alpha male hero just not as intense as her heroes are known for. Loved the first sex scene as it was fan your self and was different than she has ever done.

For new readers you do not need to read the Dream Man series before to know what is going on with Tabby because Kristen Ashley does a good job with highlights that happened in Motor Cycle Man (Dream Man series #4). Highly recommend reading Dream Man series to get a good feel of Tack.

Enjoyed all the secondary characters. Loved meeting new characters like Landon who is Shy’s brother hope we get to see more of him. Curious about Hop and Lanie, excited that their story is coming out in June, Fire Inside (Chaos #2).

Love the covers for the Chaos series, so far Fire Inside being my favorite. Loved the editing of her novel and how some senseless stuff has been taken away.

Review: Knight by Kristen Ashley

Knight (Unfinished Hero #1)
by Kristen Ashley
Purchase Link: Amazon

Blurb by Goodreads

Anya Gage has learned that to get anything good in life, you have to work for it. She has no expectations, no dreams.

Then she finds herself at a party where she doesn’t want to be and she meets Knight.

Knight Sebring knows who he is, what he wants and what he likes. And he gets it. But he never expected something as sweet as Anya Gage to wander into his bedroom during a party he did not expect to be having to borrow his phone.

Knight tries to leave Anya to the life she deserves of white picket fences and a man who watches football on Sundays – good, normal and clean. But when Anya comes to his nightclub and finds herself in a situation, he knows someone has to look after her, he can’t fight it anymore and he decides that man will be him.

Knight teaches Anya that, just as with the bad, in life you should also expect the good. And he teaches her this by giving it to her.

But Knight has a dark past and just as he desires Anya for exactly who she is, he fears when she finds out exactly the man he has become and always intends to be, she’ll leave him for good, normal and clean.

I am a huge Kristen Ashley fan and it breaks my heart that I only thought Knight was a 2 star-ok read. I have read many BDSM and erotic novels. Some I have loved and some did not like. I was excited Kristen Ashley was upping the steam factor in her first erotic novel but for me it fell flat and did not get my girly bits tingly. At times there were no build up to the sex scenes. One scene starts with Knight telling Anya to roll over and she was already tied up against the headboard. I have read many mixed reviews about how Knight likes to be called “Daddy” during there sex. Some have liked it and some have not. For me it was a huge turn off. I love spanking in my erotic novels even when they are for punishment but was not feeling anything with these scenes.

I love a yummy dirty talking, alpha male hero. Kristen Ashley is the queen of those yummy heroes I love. Going into the novel I knew Knight was not going to be like her other heroes she writes about. He is a anti-hero. I expected him to be darker and colder. I wanted to feel what he was feeling and at times never got that like her other heroes. He did at times get my heart pumping with his protectiveness and possessiveness. He lives in his own world by his own code. He has to be in control of his life and what is his. I found him at times to be sweet and swoon worthy. I already new something big about what he does on the side by reading a spoiler in a review. Urgh I wish now I did not click on that little spoiler link. Because I think I would of enjoyed the scene more not knowing as it would of been a shocker for me I did not see coming. To me I felt he was a swoon worthy hero for the reasons his does his side job. I was bummed the incident was not played out sooner and played more of a roll in the plot. I did think Anya took it to well. Kristen Ashley novels and writing style are one of kind. Her writing style is different with the way her characters talk. But for me I love it as she already has me hooked in the beginning from her heroes actions and what he says. But in Knight I was seriously lost at times. Had to reread lines because they just did not make any sense.

As for the secondary characters which like all Kristen Ashley novels are wacky and crazy but at times do add to some stories. In Knight for me at times took away from the story. I get sometimes they were needed in certain scenes to make that scene a set up for what is coming next with Knight and Anya. But most of the time I felt they were just fill ins for novel to be longer. I wanted less of them, less of Anya describing her clothes etc. I wanted more build up to Anya and Knight.

I think Knight has great potential to be a good, intense read but just felt some things were pushed to make it feel this way. I am a huge fan of Kristen Ashley and working my way on reading all her novels. Loving the idea for this new series Unfinished Hero and do look forward to reading Creed #2. I am so happy I have read her other novels like Dream Man series, At Peace and Sweet Dreams all 5 star novels for me, because honestly if I read Knight as my first Kristen Ashley novel I really do not think I would continue with her novels. If new to Kristen Ashley I would start with At Peace or Sweet Dreams. At Peace was my first Kristen Ashley novel and been hooked on her writing style, sexy as sin alpha male heroes and novels. Read Sweet Dreams second and was also a keeper. But At Peace will always be my all time favorite.

E-Book 416 pages

Blurb:
Stuck in a colorless world, Tyra Masters decides to chuck her old life and starts searching for something. She doesn’t know what it is until she meets her dream man. The goateed, tattooed, muscled, gravelly voiced motorcycle man who plies her with tequila and gives her the best sex of her life. But she knows it isn’t the tequila and sex talking. He’s it. He’s who she’s been daydreaming about since she could remember.

Until he makes it clear she isn’t who he’s looking for.

Tyra slinks away from his bed, humiliated. The problem is, he’s her new boss. She just may or may not have forgotten to tell him that part.

Kane “Tack” Allen has a rule. He doesn’t employ someone he’s slept with. And he lets Tyra know that in his motorcycle man way. Tyra fights for her job and wins it using sass and a technicality. Tack challenges her that if she hits his bed one more time, she loses her job.

Tyra is determined to keep her job and keep away from Tack. But she makes a big mistake. During their head-to-heads, she lets it all hang out and shows Tack she is who he’s looking for. And Tack has had a good woman slip through his fingers, he’s not about to let that happen again.

Although Tack colors Tyra’s world with a vibrancy that’s blinding, being with him means she has to live in his Motorcycle Club world. Full on, no holds barred. And since Tack’s world, not to mention Tack, is a little scary, Tyra isn’t so sure.

It's Tack's job to convince her.

Review

Perfect ~ Keeper

This is my second time reading Motorcycle Man, and it was just as good as the first time. I have been on a Sons Of Anarchy (TV Show) kick lately and watching this made me want to dive back into Motorcycle Man with Tack and the Chaos crew.

What I love most about Motorcycle Man is that Tack the hero and Tyra the heroine are as opposite as they come. He sees colors and lives his life to the fullest and Tyra sees life as black and white. They do not try to change each other but compromise with each other on their different worlds.

I have been interested in Tack, the tattoo badass biker babe since Mystery Man (Dream Man series #1). Tacks story is amazing. Loved him more when it ended. Was not sure at times about him, especially when he got a little too much in Tyra personal pace and had his hands around her throat but once I found out the reason for this I shed a few tears. Kristen Ashley has a way of writing where things are not what they seem to be. Once you find out what is going on, everything the hero does make sense. Tack is what I love most in heroes, a alpha male who will do what ever it takes to protect the ones he loves. He is possessive and what is his, is his no exceptions. Even though he is blunt and tells things how it is, he is also willing to tone his bluntness down a bit and try to be gentle for the woman he loves.

Gwen I adored and thought she was perfect for Tack. She is feisty and never backs down. Loved her more when she protected his daughter from an ugly outcome.

Love that Gwen and Tack have been friends since Mystery Man (Dream Man series #1). Their friendship is solid and sweet. I adored how he still calls her Peaches.

I enjoyed Hawk, Gwen, Brock, Tess, Mitch, Mara and Elvira pulling together to help Tack and Tyra. It was a treat to see them as couples and going about their lives at the time in their POV.

Kudos to Kristen Ashley for writing an amazing end of series novel and having Tack as the last in the series. Sad to see Dream Man series end but happy that there will be a continuing series with the Chaos crew. Any book in the series can be stand alone and not be lost, but to get a better feel of Tack and the rest of the Dream Man Series characters I highly recommend reading in order. Motorcycle Man is a keeper for me especially when I need my Dream-Man-Sexy-Biker-Babe-Tack Fix.

Review: Law Man by Kristen Ashley

by Kristen Ashley
Purchase Links: Amazon Barnes & Noble
E-Book 378 pages

Blurb:
Four years ago, Mitch Lawson moved across the breezeway from Mara Hanover and she fell in love with the tall, good-looking police detective who had an uncanny ability to dress well even though he’s single. It was not a stalker kind of love; she knows she has no hope since Mitch is way out of her league. That doesn’t change the fact that he’s her dream man.

Then one day Mara’s faucet won’t turn off and she knows nothing about plumbing. Being a good guy, Mitch offers to help then he invites himself over for pizza. Mara gives it a go but finds herself running away from him (literally) on their first date, standing him up their second and then she runs into him (again literally) on her way to save her ne’er do well, criminal cousin’s kids who’d just run away from their ne’er do well, criminal Dad.

Suddenly, Mara finds she has on her hands the guardianship of two kids and a gorgeous police detective who’s willing to do anything to help out… including giving fabulous foot rubs.

But Mara knows who she is and where she came from and she knows Detective Mitch Lawson is better than her. Hot law man Mitch disagrees and his challenge is to convince Mara to let go of her past and he sets about building a family at the same time he finds he also needs to protect them all against known and unknown adversaries that would tear them apart.

Review:

Perfect ~ Keeper

What I love most about Kristen Ashley Dream Man series is that each book is never the same. Yes all her heroes are sexy as sin, alpha male heroes that make you want to dive in the book and wish you were the heroine but the stories and the flow of the books are different. In Law Man, Mitch and Mara relationship builds over time. Mitch makes sure that her niece and nephew come first...Sigh, loved him more for that. I loved the relationship he build not only with Mara but with the kids. Now that is a swoon worthy hero. Kristen Ashley’s epilogues are the best and Law Man was above the best.

Why:
Tack and Tyra are total opposite. He is a badass biker babe who is rough around the edges and lives in biker babe badass world where he does not use a plate to eat Pizzas, do not use a coaster for his beer, puts his feet on the coffee table and gives it to you straight with out gentle words. She is clean cut, organize, uses plates for pizzas, coasters for beer, does not put her feet on the coffee table and needs the gentle words.  What I love about Tack and Tyra is that he will try and give her the gentle words she needs and she will try to live in his biker babe badass world. What I like about Tack and Tyra they do not try and change everything about each other, just a few things to help them work out their total different worlds. Trya is Tacks Office Manager for his garage. He thinks she needs to wear jeans but she thinks she needs to wear her pencil skirts with her fancy high heels. She wins and still wears her pencil skirts with fancy high heels. It is not easy as they do have their moments. Love Trya, she is strong, beautiful and will do anything (like kick some ass) to protect Tacks love ones.

Found this on Kristen Ashley Facebook on what someone thought Tack looks like. It is a perfect version of him. He is  Rugged, built with sexy Tatts.
