Sweet Temptation: Devil In Tartan by Julia London

Sweet Temptation is a feature on Wickedly Delicious Book Blog. That centers around books that have caught my attention. Whether it be a quote, snippet, teaser, excerpt, synopsis or a review.

Devil In Tartan by Julia London
Series: Highland Grooms #4
Release Date: March 1st, 2018

Peril and passion on enemy seas…
Lottie Livingstone bears the weight of an island on her shoulders. Under threat of losing their home, she and her clan take to the seas to sell a shipload of illegal whiskey. When an attack leaves them vulnerable, she transforms from a maiden daughter to a clever warrior. For survival, she orchestrates the siege of a rival’s ship and now holds the devilish Scottish captain Aulay Mackenzie under her command.

Tied, captive and forced to watch a stunning siren commandeer the Mackenzie ship, Aulay burns with the desire to seize control—of the ship and Lottie. He has resigned himself to a life of solitude on the open seas, but her beauty tantalizes him like nothing has before. As authorities and enemies close in, he is torn between surrendering her to justice and defending her from assailants. He’ll lose her forever, unless he’s willing to sacrifice the unimaginable…

Thoughts: A tied and captive highlander under a heroines command got me interested.

My candidate:

A Rogue For Every Lady

London, 1817: Stuck in a Mayfair ballroom, thanks to his lovestruck brother, Highlander Arran MacLawry wants nothing but a bit of distraction from an arranged betrothal—and a clever auburn-haired lass in a vixen's mask promises just that . . . until he discovers that she's the granddaughter of the Campbell, chief of clan MacLawry's longtime rival. Despite their families' grudging truce, falling for fiery Mary Campbell is a notion too outlandish even for this Highlander…

The Thrill Of The Forbidden

Raised on tales of savage MacLawrys, Mary is stunned to realize the impressively strapping man in the fox's mask is one of them. Surely the enemy shouldn't have such a broad chest, and such a seductive brogue? Not that her curiosity matters—any dalliance between them is strictly forbidden, and she's promised to another. But with the crackling spark between them ready to catch flame, love is worth every risk…

Now her traitorous act has come back to haunt her. But she can’t deny the longing this tormented warrior ignites in her, or deny the passion that turns sworn enemies into lovers. Is the gentle love of a true English Rose enough to free Scotland’s most brutal warrior from a path of vengeance—before it’s too late?

Thoughts:
Yes lovelies we have the cover for the new Highland Guard novel. It is as hot as the others in the series. I am sure you already seen it as I just came across a few days ago. The sexy covers match the Elite Warriors perfect. Bought PB copies this week up to the Saint. My mom as read them all up to The Saint and is in love with this series. My mom is visiting for 3 months and jealous she gets to relax by the pool all day and read while I have to work. Not fair.  I am bad as I am reading them out of order. Hunter is next on my list as I got it from NetGalley. Fell in love with this series after reading The Recruit from NetGalley. Next up for my collection in PB will be The Recruit and The Hunter.

ARC review: Born In Sin by Camelia Miron Skiba

BORN IN SIN (Dacian Legends, #2)
by Camelia Miron Skiba
Purchase Links: Amazon Barnes & Noble

Blurb by Goodreads

Loathing the thought of his beloved Oriana in the arms of another man, fearless Zyraxes delivers death upon the Roman enemy. With only the rugged land as his bed and the sky as his blanket, trouble finds him often.
Summoned to aid Oriana’s father in the war against two powerful enemies—one of them Oriana's savage husband—Zyraxes proves himself worthy of more than just noble titles and coin. But he wants none of it. What he wants is her.
When Zyraxes discovers a broken and nearly dead Oriana, though forbidden, he disregards her father's orders to leave her to her death, and instead chooses to protect and conceal her. Will saving her be enough to win her heart? Will his part royal lineage make him worthy of her love?

Camelia Miron Skiba took my breath away with BORN IN VENGEANCE (Dacian Legends, #1) and she has done it again with Zayraxes story in Born In Sin. Zayraxes had me at the moment he rescued his one and only love from dying by the hands of her evil husband.

“All these years I’ve been away from her I haven’t lived. I only survived. All these years I’ve buried my love for her, hopeless, endless, a raw wound to never heal.”

I loved how there was a little surprise about Zayraxes identity. He broke my heart when he had to choose from treating a sick character and Oriana. Many times I could not swipe my e-reader fast enough to see if Zayraxes was going to get caught for having Oriana in her dads castle. Her dad blames her for her brothers deaths and is not allowed back home.

New characters are introduce. I hope they will get their own story and OMG was afraid to swipe my e-reader to see if one of those characters was going to die. Interested about Cavarus Maximus and his kick butt red dipped arrows. Hope to see more of him in future novels.

Adore the love the brothers have. They are not blood related but brothers in arms. You feel the family love when they joke, laugh and even fight. One of those brothers I am crushing on at the moment is Galtys with his Vino and womanizing way. Seeing Galty loose himself a little to Thera was amazing. Seeing him loose his control towards Zayraxes about a misunderstanding with Thera was even better. They have to have their own story and I hope it is next.

Born In Sin is an edge of your seat novel with love and war and surprises I did not see coming. The love is real, beautiful and not pushed. The battle scenes are kick butt, real that you feel like you are right there fighting along Zayraxes and his brothers. I look forward to more books in Dacian Legends series and can not wait to see who is up next, the beautiful cover and where the story will be going.

Favorite Quote:
“My life does not belong to me nor do I care if I lose it. Without Oriana my life is not worth living.”

Review: The Gambler by Lily Graison

The Gambler (Willow Creek #3)
by Lily Graison
Purchase Links: Amazon  Barnes & Noble

Blurb by Goodreads

Emmaline Hunt only had one thing she could call her own. A piece of land that held a secret not even her drunken stepfather knew about. When he gambles it away in a high stakes poker game, Emmaline does the only thing she can. She tries to steal the land deed back.

Tristan Avery has seen his share of bloodshed while sitting at a gaming table and knows its time to lay low when he wins a wad of cash and a piece of land. Especially after his opponent ends up dead at his feet. High tailing it out of town is his only option but things take a drastic turn when he finds a woman in his hotel room trying to rob him blind.

The botched robbery attempt is only the start of his troubles when Tristan finds his new land occupied by the same girl who tried to rob him. When he realizes he’s left her homeless, and killed her stepfather, his conscience forces him to do the right thing. Taking her to his hometown and setting her up with a new life will make up for all he’s taken from her.

But Emmaline has other plans. She wants her land, and Tristan’s money, and she’ll do whatever it takes to get them. All she has to do is convince him she’s there to stay, outwit him, find a way back home and not let a single soul know she has a gold mine bursting at the seems with untapped wealth.

I seem to always fall in love with Lily Graison characters from their first meeting.

“You’re a girl?”

“I’m a woman, thank you very much.” She straightened her shirt and met his gaze. “And I’d be obliged if you’d get that gun out of my face.”

Tristan won a deed in a poker game. Later on while defending himself he ends up killing the owner of the deed. When he goes to check out the land he won he finds Emmaline in a beat up shack and was the one who tried robbing him of the deed in his hotel. He soon learns that was her step dad he killed and all she has left his the beat up shack and the land. He can not bare to kick her out and not let her live the way she is living in a run down shack with no protection since he killed her step dad. Her feistiness intrigues him and is finding it hard to keep is hands off her. While he tries to figure out what to do with her, he comes up with a plan to take her back to his hometown and find her a husband. He has been gone too long and find it would also be good for him to go home.

Loved Tristan as he is arrogant, bossy with a alpha male attitude but also has a sweet side to him. I loved how he truly believes he is trying to find her a husband but really deep down inside he can not bare to part with her. He is not the marrying type and knows she can find some one better.

Loved Emmaline’s character as she has a backbone and will do what ever it takes to keep her land. It is all she has left and of course she has a secret containing her land that Tristan can never know about.

It was a treat when finally all the Avery brothers are together back home. Loved seeing how Abigail, Morgan, Sarah, and Colt are doing. Holden’s book is next in The Rancher (The Willow Creeks #4). Look forward to seeing how he will finally get his HEA.

Review: Firelight by Kristen Callihan

Firelight (Darkest London #1)
by Kristen Callihan
Purchase Links:  Amazon Barnes & Noble

Blurb by Goodreads

Once the flames are ignited . . .

Miranda Ellis is a woman tormented. Plagued since birth by a strange and powerful gift, she has spent her entire life struggling to control her exceptional abilities. Yet one innocent but irreversible mistake has left her family's fortune decimated and forced her to wed London's most nefarious nobleman.

They will burn for eternity . . .

Lord Benjamin Archer is no ordinary man. Doomed to hide his disfigured face behind masks, Archer knows it's selfish to take Miranda as his bride. Yet he can't help being drawn to the flame-haired beauty whose touch sparks a passion he hasn't felt in a lifetime. When Archer is accused of a series of gruesome murders, he gives in to the beastly nature he has fought so hard to hide from the world. But the curse that haunts him cannot be denied. Now, to save his soul, Miranda will enter a world of dark magic and darker intrigue. For only she can see the man hiding behind the mask.

Kristen Callihan has a beautiful writing voice that I felt I was right there throughout the book. Firelight is a nice mix of Paranormal and Historical Romance with a gothic feeling.

Archer is beautiful, fun, sweet and sexy. He had me from his first meeting with Miranda. Then I just wanted him more through out the book. Miri was a spitfire that is not your damsel in distress. She can hold her own with Archer. Archer and Miranda were meant to be together. The love they have for each other is beautiful. They keep secrets from each other, but it is because they are trying to protect each other. They both are trying to find who is killing Archer's friends, while doing this they are also beside each other when the other is in danger and saving each other. The sexual tension between them is hot and sexy. The build of their relationship is beautiful and sweet. It takes a while before they kiss or make love and when they do sparks are flying.

Make sure you have a day of nothing to do when reading Firelight. It is a page turner and everything you have plan for that day will be forgotten. Have a space on your bookshelf because Firelight is a keeper.

Favorites quotes:
"And I'm afraid of wasting my life always being in control," he whispered. "But no matter what direction I take, all roads lead to you." Gently, he rested his forehead to hers once more. "Let me come home, Miri. If only for one night."

Archer's finger grazed hers. "I feel you. As if you were connected to me by an invisible string." He touched his chest. "I feel you here. In my heart."

With the suddenness of a cat leaping upon its prey, he leaned forward and caught up her wrist. "Tread lightly, Miranda Fair." His thumb moved lightly over her fluttering pulse, as she stared with her mouth assuredly hanging open in shock, her heart beating furiously within her breast. "You know, it's never wise to tempt the devil." His gaze lowered to her hand, still locked in his grip, her fingers glistening with pear juice. "Had I not this mask, I should be of a mind to suck that juice right off of your fingers.”

Review: I Was Here - Before You Came by Camelia Miron Skiba

I Was Here--Before You Came (Dacian Legends, #1)
by
  Barnes & Noble

Blurb by goodreads

Legend has it … centuries after Spartacus another hero is born—Ilias, the bastard son of King Decebalus. Thirsty for revenge and eager to unshackle the Roman oppression, Ilias' obsession to fulfill his oath has no bounds, even if that means kidnapping Nerva, the beloved daughter of Emperor Traianus. What he doesn't know is his own heart threatens to betray his conscience. What will prevail: his mind or his heart?

I am a huge Spartacus TV show fan and love the Roman Times but yet to find a novel with this genre that catches my attention until I was here-before you came (Dacian Legends, #1) by Camelia Miron Skiba. She is truly a master story teller with a beautiful writing voice.

Vengeance.

That’s what I live for, the only reason I survived.

I will not rest. I will not give up. For ten years I built an army, my army to take back my land, reclaim my birthright to the Dacian Kingdom as the only survivor of King Decebalus. I’ve learned, trained, fed my hate, waiting for the right moment to strike.

The moment has come.

I was here-before you came is Ilias story on how he wants vengeance to take back his land that was rightfully his. I loved how it is in his POV. His POV fit perfect with this genre and it is his story. For a small novella, the descriptions are well done with kick butt action scenes, scenery and all inner actions with the characters, I felt like I was there in this amazing world Camelia Miron Skiba has built. I would love to see this come on TV as I found my self feeling like I was watching an episode. I loved that Ilias was not sure if he was taking the right course of action with kidnapping Nerva.

I loved Nerva strong will, feisty character. Loved her more when she had no problem going head to head with Ilias and letting him know how she felt about him kidnapping her. She is not your damsel in distress heroine, she can hold her own.

Ilias story is a keeper for me to re-read over and over again. If you are a huge Spartacus fan or love the Roman Times I recommend Ilias story. Even if not into this genre and looking for a beautiful written quick novel, I would still highly recommend. Camelia has a new fan and I look forward to checking out more of her novels.

The ending for sure left me wanting more. I look forward to seeing how Dacian Legends series plays out and what Camelia has in store for her fans with Zyraxes story next in Born In Sin (Dacian Legends, #2).
