Review: Rock Chick Redemption by Kristen Ashley

Rock Chick Redemption (Rock Chick #3)
by Kristen Ashley

Synopsis
Roxie’s on the run from a bad boyfriend who will not catch the hint that it is o-v-e-r. She’s in no mood for love at first sight, but when her eyes fall on Hank, it’s trouble from the get-go. Roxie tries to hold Hank at arms length but Hank wants to be a closer (as in, a lot closer). Roxie’s trouble catches up with her and Hank wants to help but Roxie knows in her heart that she’s no good for a white hat guy. The problem is no one agrees with her, especially her crazy hippie best friend Annette or her parents; the even crazier small-Indiana-town Herb and Trish. Toss into the mix the gang from Rock Chick and Rock Chick Rescue and Roxie finds herself totally outnumbered.

Climb in for another Rock Chick wild ride through Rock Chick Redemption. As the odds stack up against Roxie, she has no choice but to hold on and just ride it out through the kidnappings, car chases, society parties, a riot at the strip club, Hank getting “Mom Bombed” and one crazy night at the Haunted House.

During all this Hank works at convincing her she really wants to stay and he, along with the Hot Bunch, go all out to make her safe. Hank also needs to work on showing Roxie that her past decisions don’t mean her future can’t include something as downright delicious as… normal.

This is my third attempt in Rock Chick series and at least Rock Chick Redemption was more an enjoyable read for me. I actually liked Roxie. I felt bad for her dealing with her crazy ex., but I still had a few issues with her character. I am starting to see a trend with the Rock Chick main Heroines as they love to push the hero away time and time again. But I feel like I really get no reasons why they do so. I understand why Roxie would not want a relationship with Hank especially after having to deal with a crazy ex. I adored Hank as he was your typical KA hero. Protective, loving and caring.

The problem for me in Rock Chick Redemption is when it is good it is freakin fantastic especially with her crazy ex. Love those parts and of course with the help of KA sexy, alpha males. But when it is bad it is the worst especially when it came to the  "Hot Bunch".  The parts with the gang and all their crazy personalities are dragged out. I get this crazy group of friends are a main part of the series but really could of done without a lot of their nonsense rambling. I felt the scenes dealing with her ex and even some scenes with her trying to cope with her feelings with Hank were intense and was loving every minute of it. But then I am slapped with a new scene that is with the "Hot Bunch" and was just crazy stuff that is suppose to be funny. I have read many novels that are intense but still have a bit a humor in it and loved it. In Rock Chick Redemption the humor and craziness that was going on did not flow nicely.

I feel like something is wrong with me as I am not connecting with this series. Everyone I know seems to love this series. Everyone does have different tastes as there are may novels I have loved, others did not and vice versa.  I am going to give Rock Chick series another go. If Book 4 does not catch my attention I will take it as a series just not for me.

  1. Don't feel bad. I haven't really connected with this series either. I do have plenty of KA series I absolutely love, but for some reason this series I don't like I've read maybe 5 or 6 of the Rock Chick books and I really only have liked one. The males and females of the series seems repetitive to me. Like I'm reading the same book over and over again but with different characters and backround plot. I just want KA to write more series b/c I'm running outta KA books to read. lol!

    1. I was planning on starting book 4 today but then decided not to. Started reading the blurb and do not if I can handle the hot bunch at the moment. I am happy to hear I am not the only one who does have a connection with this series. Bummer you are done with all her series. Thank goodness I am working my way slowly through them. I still have tons to read.

  2. I have yet to try this series, just because I am not sure if its something I would enjoy...eventually I think I will give in and try the first book. Hope the next one works better for you though. I hate it when a story just doesn't click with you especially when so many others love it.

    1. I do not think you will like this. The heroines are not strong will and very annoying more so book 2. Book 1 I was able to tolerate. The one group of friends are crazy. I feel this series is more of comical mystery and not working for me.

  3. I only read the first and liked it, but not adored it, so I never felt compelled to read the rest either - especially when I have other complete KA series on my tablet :)

    1. This series is one of kind. Not a Rocker book at all. It has many great followers just wish I was one of them.

  5. Great review. I've not tried any of these books but most people seem to love them. It's nice to read one that's not totally gushing over it. :-)

    1. It seems like all the books everyone loves I do not. But novels that no one likes especially ones in a series I freakin love.
