Review / Quote-Tastic: Angel's Halo by Terri Anne Browning

Angel's Halo (Angel's Halo MC #1)
by Terri Anne Browning
Length: 166 Pages

Synopsis
Librarian's Note: This is an alternate/new cover for ASIN B00ICP63XI

Creswell Springs was a small town in Trinity Count, California. Population 1,500—maybe. It’s a quiet town, with small town values. Its greatest income is the University just outside of the town limits… and the revenue the local Motorcycle Club brings in.

Being part of the MC that was Angel’s Halo was exactly like being part of a family. A scary, powerful, crazy family. It was also like its own society. There are rules, just as there are in every family, every society. But only breaking one of their rules will leave you in a broken, blood pile on the floor…
No one touches Raven Hannigan.

Raven
I was the MC’s only weakness. Or so my father use to tell me as I was growing up. Mad Max Hannigan was once Angel’s Halos’ president. He made the rules and everyone was expected to follow them or come face to fist with the enforcer…
I have spent my life in the middle of the MC. I knew the rules—the penalties for breaking those rules. So I knew what would happen to him if I let him break the golden rule… But I loved him, like I have never loved anyone or anything before. I thought my love would protect him.
Of course it hadn’t. When our secret was discovered he was beaten.
So I shouldn’t blame him for leaving me…

Bash
As the enforcer I knew the consequences. Knew exactly what was in store for me when Raven’s family found out that I had dared to break my MC’s unforgivable rule. I loved her, so it didn’t matter to me. When her oldest brother delivered my punishment I didn’t scream. Didn’t groan. I took it like the man my MC had made me, and would have done it over and over again if that was what it took to be able to call Raven Hannigan mine.
But then my past reared its ugly head and I had a choice to make. One that I have only lived to regret.
Taking on the job as Angel’s Halos’ new president was my second chance. But… would my secrets destroy everything Raven and I once had?

As for my Quote-tastic today is my favorite scene in Angel's Halo. Raven had just found out why Bash left. She is now questioning his love for her. I really would love to give you the rest of the scene but it would be a major spoiler. Right in the beginning of Angel's Halo I was loving Bash character but it was more into this particular scene that was the moment I fell in love hard for his character.

Quote- Tastic; Bash POV:
"I have always loved you Raven."

She doesn't turn around, but I see her shoulders slump a little. "Empty words now."

"No! I don't mean to shout, don't mean to sound so harsh, but I can't help it. "No. I loved you when you came to me at sixteen and told me you were mine. I loved you at seventeen and it was driving me  crazy not to be able to touch you. I fucking loved you the first time I kissed you, made love to you, branded you as mine. I loved you when I  left and loved you every day I was gone. Maybe I never said the words but I loved you Raven. I still love you!

She doesn't say anything, just walks away as if I didn't just rip myself open for her. Muttering a curse, I turn around and punch the wall. I don't feel the sting of wood splintering as my fist goes through the wall, don't feel the throb as knuckles break and flesh tear.

All I can feel is the ache in my chest because I know Raven hates me.

Sebastian “Bash” Reid stole my heart. He is a protector by nature and true to his word. As the story moved along I was falling hard for his character. Bash has a secret and was one of the reasons he left.  I wish I didn't know his secret from a negative spoiler review. I am thinking it would of been a good moment to experience without knowing. I do read negative reviews just so I  can see if there is any pet peeves of mine I do not like in my reads. It is crazy how one person might find something a terrible thing but another would find it a good thing. I found the good in Bash. There is dual POV and loved being in Bash's head. Their POV's were nicely done as it continues with the story.  No rehashing from both POV was nice.

Raven Hannigan  I just adored. Her mother died when she was young that left her to be raised by her dad who was the President of Angel's Halo MC and four older brothers. Her family and everyone in the MC is protective of Raven and loved that. It was never over the top and she was never the whiney princess. It just made her character have a backbone. She can be a little stubborn and feisty at times with a bit of a potty mouth. Loved that her potty mouth was not too much. Her brothers and some of the MC members did not allow that. She  was also  caring and loving.

Raven and Bash have a past that I loved hearing about. It helped with feeling connected to them. Their past was more of friendship that later started turning into a relationship. I loved the flashbacks or more really it read from present to past. I felt these scenes could of been presented as a flashback like with italic and some could of been more fleshed out than told. Some of them I wanted to experience what they were going through. Especially since Raven was off limits from everyone in the MC and Bash, one of the MC brothers broke the unforgivable rule, no one touches Raven. Sad to say was basically told just like it stated in the Synopsis. As for the heat level it rates more on the mild side. It does have a sex scene that I felt was ok. I actually did not mind that there was no sexual tension and no dirty talking hero. I was so caught up in the storyline that it did not bother me at all.

Right in the beginning I was loving all the characters. Then as new ones appeared I was loving them except for one. I do not know how I feel about this character only because I needed a little bit more of her. There are multiple POV's from most of the characters. I was surprised I actually enjoyed this. The other POV's are not giving their thoughts on the main characters. They are all part of what is going on with the story.

Angel's Halo is more of a tamed biker read. Not much biker action except for a bit in the plot that was not overly done. Raven's brothers and some of the bikers are really one big family except some are not blood. Loved the guys bickering back and forth, Loved Raven bickering with her brothers.   Loved how they have each others back. Loved how they are natural protectors. All of them would protect any woman. I just adore how they will open their home to someone in need and welcome them as part of their family. Yes they all have a bit of Alpha Male attitude that is never over the top and flow nicely when needed through out the story.

I had a really hard time rating this novel between a 3 Star- Liked It to a 4 Stars-Loved It.  Here is the problem, I really loved it and read it in one sitting. I could not swipe my kindle fast enough to see what was coming next.  I  loved all the characters and enjoyed being in everybody's head. I had a huge smile on my face after reading it because it left me feeling good. It ended in a kind of a cliffhanger but not with the main couple and got my attention for the next book. So I kept thinking well then if this is the case then it should be a 4 Star read. But then I got to thinking, oh my gosh it is over and I really did not get an HEA. Yes it ends well for Raven and Bash but I really did not get full closer on them and this was supposed to be their story. Overall their one big problem was handle too fast, needed more time dealt with and their somewhat ending seemed rushed.  So I went with 3 stars only because the novel is on the shorter side and had a lot going on with other characters. But Like I said that did not bother me but would of liked the novel to been longer so I could of have more time spent on the main characters.

Terri Anne Browning has a beautiful writing voice as she brought all her characters to life that made me want to be part of their family that I look forward to reading more of in book 2. Who I am kidding I  want more of her delicious bikers who are caring, loving with a smidge of Alpha Male attitude. That's right Hawk and Spider I am talking about you guys.

I can understand why you are conflicted about this one, you really want this book to be wrapped up, and now it has been left open. Great review!

  5. I've started exploring biker romances between the few series I've stuck with the last few years. This sounds like a good one to try. Loved the quote that gave me a feel for the story and characters.

    1. This is on the tamer side that would good for you. All the characters lovable but beware I believe some will be annoyed with so many different POVs.
