Review: Branded by Laura Wright

Branded (The Cavanaugh Brothers #1)
by Laura Wright

Synopsis
In the small town of River Black, Texas, sits the Triple C—a working cattle ranch that sustains the town. But it also holds painful memories and shocking secrets for the Cavanaugh brothers...

When the Cavanaugh brothers return home for their father’s funeral, they discover unexpected evidence of the old man’s surprising double life—a son named Blue, who wants the Triple C Ranch as much as they do. The eldest son, Deacon, a wealthy businessman who couldn’t wait to leave the ranch and move on with his life, is looking to use his powerful connections to stop Blue at any cost. He never expected the ranch’s forewoman, Mackenzie Byrd, to get in his way.

Mac knows Deacon means to destroy the ranch and therefore destroy her livelihood. But as the two battle for control, their attraction builds. Now Deacon is faced with the choice of a lifetime: Take down the Triple C to feed his need for revenge, or embrace the love of the one person who has broken down every barrier to his heart.

Delicious cover and an interesting synopsis, start of a new series with brothers made me a happy girl. But for me Deacon and Mac story was not all there for me.

Loved Mac backbone when it came to protecting  the ranch from Deacon. After discovering Deacon's shocking secrets I get why he did not want to keep the ranch.   I wanted to feel more of Deacon's anger when it came to his past.  Mac has loved Deacon since they were kids and was not always feeling their connection.

I liked the mystery of Deacon's sister. Since readers did not get a whole lot of her in Branded, I am assuming with each novel will get more. I wish there was a little bit more in Branded.

I do not know what it is but I feel like Branded is missing something. For me the novel and everyone seemed to have the same tone except for Mac. I feel Branded is a decent start to a new series. Got my attention enough to continue the series as I am curious about the brothers and of course need to know more on their sister.

  2. I had that same...something not quite there feeling with this one. I couldn't quite place it but it was just a bit off. But I did enjoy it overall. The second book was WAY better I thought. It clicked all over the place for me. Hope you enjoy it if you give it a go :)
